Heavy Rain Goes Gold

I had a chance to go hands on with this at PAX and I think this game is going to set the bar for storytelling in video games. This may be one of the few games that I pick up at launch. If you haven't gotten a chance to play it there will be a demo coming on the 11th of next month. The game comes out on the 23rd of next month as well if you pre-order you get an early free shot at chapter 1 of Heavy Rain Chronicles(Download-only episodes for Heavy Rain).  Trailer below.

Playstation Store Update

No Dedicated Servers or LAN for Bioshock 2

In what seems to be a disturbing trend 2k Games today announced they will not officially support LAN or dedicated servers in Bioshock 2. Copy and paste from the Q&A

Do you support LAN play on consoles or PC? Do you support dedicated servers?
Short answer, no and no. There is always a finite amount of time for the development of a game. Bringing Multiplayer to BioShock was a daunting task between the tech (there was no multiplayer support in the codebase from the first game) and the expectations of the community. Either you try to do everything and so nothing feels finished or you focus your efforts to do a smaller number of things really well like an accessible online experience. We chose to spend the time we had creating a solid game foundation and unfortunately that did not include LAN play or dedicated servers.

When is a Netbook not a Netbook?

When it has better specs then the laptop I am currently typing this on? Engadget has found the following blurb The Alienware M11x, with over 6.5 hours of battery life and weighing under 4.5 lbs. will start at an amazing $799! Leave it to the folks at Alienware to enable truly mobile performance gaming at an affordable price. tucked away in the source code for the site. Anyway for $799 this is truly an amazing machine, 11.6-inch display, NVIDIA GT335M switchable graphics and a 6.5 hour battery. Here is the Alienware page for it.

Red Riding

This could prove to be interesting. Copy and paste from the Apple trailer site.

Sure to be one of the cinematic events of the year, RED RIDING is a mesmerizing neo-noir epic based on factual events and adapted for the screen by Tony Grisoni (FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS) from David Peace’s electrifying series of novels revolving around the manhunt for the “Yorkshire Ripper,” a serial killer who terrorized northwest England in the 1970s and ’80s. The three films are directed by three notable filmmakers—Julian Jarrold (BRIDESHEAD REVISITED), James Marsh (MAN ON WIRE) and Anand Tucker (SHOPGIRL). Each boasts a stellar British cast that includes Andrew Garfield (THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS), Sean Bean (LORD OF THE RINGS), Paddy Considine (DEAD MAN’S SHOES), Rebecca Hall (VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA), and Peter Mullan (TRAINSPOTTING). The RED RIDING TRILOGY screened at the Telluride and New York film festivals and will open in New York on Friday, February 5 at the IFC Center, with a national release to follow. It will simultaneously be available on IFC Films’ video on demand platform, available to over 50 million homes in all major markets.
